New Year, New Trends!

Welcome to 2016! Hopefully you are raring to go as the year begins and are looking forward to what is to come over the next 12 months. One thing is for sure, the new year will most definitely bring some new trends and if you are looking to update your wardrobe, check out our guide to some of the biggest trends to watch out for in 2016…

Back to the 90’s

Every year seems to mark the resurgence of a trend from a previous decade. In 2015 it was the return of all things 70’s (which is still around so expect to see plenty of Boho prints and maxi dresses for the summer) and in 2016 it is the return of the 1990’s. In particular, simple slip dresses in sheer or satin fabrics and underwear worn as outerwear. Seen at the SS16 shows of designers such as Calvin Klein, Burberry, Saint Laurent and Celine, this new trend is more wearable than it may first appear.

For those of us lacking the body confidence (or desire) to go out flaunting our smalls, there are a few easy ways to incorporate the trend into your wardrobe. Firstly, when it comes to underwear as outerwear, the underwear must be attractive, greying bras that lack support simply won’t cut it, so look to invest in a statement piece that supports, shapes and looks fantastic. To work the 90’s trend try wearing a dark-coloured bra, such as Glamour Soie from Lise Charmel in ‘Dark Swan’ and pair it with a sheer fabric top. The blend of dark satin, creamy lace and embroidery under a sheer top will bring your look bang up to date. You could also pair a low cut top with a balconnet bra such as Delight in ‘Celebration’ from Prima Donna for a daring look. Delight features delicate detailing and barely-there fabrics for a seductive look.

Big pants?

2016 marks the release of the latest Bridget Jones film (expect to see it in cinemas early Autumn). Famed for her love of ‘big pants’ could the new film be set to spark a new trend for full briefs? In fact, full briefs can be an attractive as well as practical choice. For example, Deauville full briefs (Prima Donna’s best-selling range) not only look contemporary and alluring with their design details, but they also gently shape, helping to smooth and flatten to give a more flattering silhouette.

Ruffles!

Another trend to watch out for in 2016 is ruffles and frills. Seen everywhere from shirts, to dresses and skirts, ruffles are actually a great way to disguise lumps and bumps and can help soften a look, especially when worn around the neckline.

Colour palette

As we hit spring and summer expect stores to be filled with a riot of colour. Orange in particular is likely to be a hot colour and because it is available in a range of tones from bright to burnt, there is a shade for every skin tone. Other colours to look out for include, lilac, turquoise and red. Here at Bare Necessities we stock the latest ranges from designer lingerie houses including Lise Charmel, Prima Donna, Lejaby, Felina, Empreinte, Aubade, Anita and Marie-Jo. As well as choosing collections that reflect changing trends and styles, we ensure every piece offers the support, fit and shaping we know our customers want.
